10-year project to reduce heart attacks in New Ulm shows promise
[Pioneer Press, Nov. 7, 2009] A 10-year experiment to determine whether one community can cut or even eliminate heart attacks has shown early progress, according to Allina Hospitals & Clinics. After one year, Allina’s Heart of New Ulm project has identified thousands of people with heart problems or metabolic conditions that put them at risk for heart attacks.
The goal in year two is to challenge people in New Ulm — a community of about 14,000 people southwest of the Twin Cities — to adopt healthier habits, said Jeff VanWormer, the project’s director. The entire article is on the Pioneer Press website .
