Intense debate over new mammogram guidelines

[Minnesota Public Radio, Nov. 20, 2009] New guidelines recommending against yearly mammograms for women between the ages of 40 and 49 are creating confusion and anxiety among women, and stirring anger in the medical community.

While some say the new guidelines are a welcome change, many doctors say they will continue to recommend yearly screening for women over 40. On Minnesota Public Radio’s Midmorning program, Allina Medical Clinic OB/GYN, Dr. Michael Slama says Allina will continue to recommend annual mammography for women 40 and older, and for good reason.
